Basic entry-level frame. Peg on the fork is for a lamp bracket. Not worth anything - pitch it.

Convert it to fixie.

Yes it would look good as a fixie with a old style light on the fork and pump.

As much as I seem to have disdain for the fixie fad I have seen some nice examples of low-budget conversions of otherwise junk frames and parts rolling around the Chicago area. For an ultra-lightweight low-cost, low-maintenance beater bike that you won't cry too much if it gets stolen and don't have to worry about banging up and down 3 flights of stairs every day they have their uses. I wasn't joking about converting that frame.

A true fixie or single-speed conversion that isn't a real track bike should be cheap, fast, dirty, light, simple and easy transportation -not a fashion accessory or lifestyle statement...

That frame could be the basis of a decent conversion as it is was a quality piece in its day that would otherwise go to waste as it isn't really worth a full restoration. A quick soak in OA and a rubdown in cosmo and it would be ready to go as long as the headset and BB were not too pitted.

Very well. Can we keep it on topic, please? This thread has been invaluable for serial research; I don't wish to see it shut down over another fixie debate.

Kurt, yesterday I found a pair on a ('67 hub) Raleigh parts bike. They are absolutely white, not grey or beige.

Pics attached.

My chaincase bike is a 39-41 judging by the equipment but unfortunately the hub date is hard to read because of many miles with a leather polishing strap. It matches the description and equipment in the 39 catalog on the retroraleighs site. Serial 62456 AH.

1972 Grand Prix

I just picked up this bike with the serial number on the bottom racket. Don't know whether to keep it (should overhaul the hubs and BB) or dump it. serial # 2808160, should be a 1972.

New serial number for my Men's Raleigh Sprite. I fixed the frame bend by finding another Sprite to replace 4102779. The replacement Sprite is #4231108. All three of these Sprites at SA 5-speed hubs with production dates of 8/67. Must have been a busy August in '67.

My 1971 (I think) exercise beater is a 60cm Grand Prix with the dropout S/N 230379, unusual seat tube, stronglight crankarms and an uncracked Simplex derailleur. I love this bike.

My super course has b7602 stamped on the rear dropout. It also has 72 stamped on one of the front lugs, and the simplex derailleur has '68' on it. Anyone know what year it is?

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread...Thank you for providing this fantastic resource. I'm still coming a little unstuck with dating my ladies single speed Triumph and am hoping someone will help. I have no interest in its value as I know its nothing high spec but to me part of anything vintage is finding as much as possible about its history and what it is you're keeping alive.

The only serial number I can find is 40498N with a T underneath as shown below. It is on the side of the seat lug as shown in the registry as 47-55 convention #1, however the N suffix is not mention until the early 60s and without it I'm not sure my number is even long enough?

I've included a picture of the decals just in case they help. If knowing anything else would help obviously just let me know. Sadly I can't find any number on the rear hub

Thank you so much in advance :-)
