Well, it would take the right frame to pry the Mercian from my fingers for sure. It's one of those bikes I could see being the ONLY bike.

Matt, would you like a 56 cm top tube touring frame (only 57 cm seat tube though) just to try out and see what you think before you part with the Mercian? I've got a Univega Sportour sitting around doing nothing you could try if you want.
Then again, perhaps you've already done that (tried a cheap mock-up and found the arrangement comfortable), if you're now at the point of considering letting go of the Mercian!

Got a 2002 Bianchi SL with 10 speed Chorus (except for ultegra cranks). compact frame, 56cm ETT. Frame is used with the normal nicks and scratches, but no issues.
Looking for something more traditional, I got a new carbon blinged out bike, so this one isn't getting any use.
Could trade whole bike or frame + cash if needed. Would love something European in a 57ish c-c with reynolds or columbus tubing. Had a Biancho EL-OS before this I should have hung onto.

@mkeller234, Keep your eyes open for an '81 to '83 Miyata 1000.. their geometry is exactly what you are describing, taller than long. Mine is 58cm tall by 55cm or 56cm long. Unfortunately I'm not looking to trade mine, but just wanted to let you know what might work for you.

Since you mention it, I have Miyata 912 frame now--a 1986 that measures 62 cm C to C--that I don't use anymore and would part with, if anyone is looking for something like that.

'85 Trek 52x52 in Reynolds db 501 - frame-set only:
Looking for a racing or sport-touring frame-set trade.
I need a 56x56 or a 56x54 ... hopefully with longer, horizontal drop-outs.
This frame retains repaired, original paint (Imron?) and decal set with clear coat. No dings. BB shell was chased and faced, and rear d-o's aligned by a frame maker when I built it up. The tubes were flushed with vinegar and boiling water, then sprayed with lithium grease. The interior, stay-routed RD cable was altered and made exterior with a brazed on stop at the frame shop. (Hence mismatched paint.)
I am willing to compensate for any grade-up tubing, perhaps by paying shipping on your end.
Reynolds 501 is a rolled and seam-welded tube — not an extrusion. It is cheaper to produce than butted extrusions that require mandrels for butting. It weighs a few ounces more, but yields nothing in terms of the "steel feel" — an under-rated tubing IMHO.
Some investment cast lugs are a distinguishing feature of 560's of this vintage.

@mkeller234, I have miyata 912 frame as well from the early 80's. Just measured it and it's 56cm. Everything is straight, but there's some rust that might warrant a repaint. Bottom bracket and headset will need to be replaced. It served me well for years.

I've found a Lotus Eclair with a short top tube, so I am set for now. Thank you for the offer.

Anyone have a 3Rensho with a 58-60cm ctc seat tube? I've got a 3Rensho Super-Record Export 55cm ctc (marked 54.5 on the BB) that I just picked up, because I had to own a true 3Rensho at least once.
Only pics I have are as received, filthy dirty... I will be cleaning it up today though if the weather holds up.
More pics here: 3Rensho Super-Record Export
Original paint (purchased from the original owner), chips on the chain stay being the worst of anything, some super minor rust on the seat lug point and brake cable guides (an OA bath would sort that out pronto).

I have a 1980's Pinarello Catena Lusso size 55.5cm c-c seat tube 57 c-t, and 55.5 c-c top tube. I am looking for a smaller Italian road frame anywhere from 51-53 cm c-c seatube, or 53-54 cm c-c top tube. It is original paint and the dropouts are stamped "Pinarello". Please take a look at more pictures in the link. Thank you.

Update on my frame -- the bottom bracket on my Bianchi Premio went bad recently, so I'll be pressing my Bianchi Eros (dubbed "Beyonce" by a friend) into service next week for RAGBRAI:
So if anyone has a bigger-framed Eros they want to trade for a smaller one, they'll have to wait a little.
