How about leaving the cell at home? I have ridden tens of thousands of miles with no cell phone, had to hitchhike home once, when my freewheel fell apart and dumped the bearings.

It's useful for calling 911 for crashed riders/motorcyclists/cars that you come across. I've done all of that.
Also for taking pictures of the accident scene and culprit's license plate when a driver left turns into your group ride.
I carry mine bare in my jersey pocket. It does not seem to kill phones, but I'm using phones I got from a cell phone company I worked for. Before that I used a $20 Nokia I got from ebay. I'd consider a plastic bag for a phone I paid $600 for.

I am frequently on call. Screw that noise. Without a cell I would be riding my trainer more than I already do. My s3 is in a Ziploc bag in a jersey pocket.
Also useful for messaging my wife, finding directions, being contacted if a child or wife has an emergency, etc.

I have a lifeproof case now but I also have a dry bag. The dry bag is a Sealline and has a headphone jack. It works with a ton of different electronics.

The other side of the bag is clear and you can control the phone through it easy.

Not to go off-topic, but I've always wondered about that. I carry my ID everywhere in case I get pulled over by NYC cops -- who are notorious for arresting people for minor offenses if they can't produce ID. I can just see me rolling through a red light (not that I've ever done that...) and ending up in the Tombs because the officer wouldn't accept my bracelet as identification.

#1 I'm responsible for a number of mainframe computer system including a major NYC hospital. So if they need me, they can reach me. I have a app that only will ring the phone if certain numbers call such as work or my family. All other notifications are silent.
#2 I sometimes take unfamiliar roads and the GPS and maps is a life saver.

I just started recently carrying a cell phone after witnessing a friend go down in a pace line and only one of us had a phone to make an emergency call.
edit: in baggie in jersey pocket.
