How long (time) is your commute?

I'm interested in the time it takes for you to get to work by bike, whatever your speed. Not mileage. One-way trip. (If your trip to work and the home ride take very different time, then please count the trip to work.) Thanks.

Sometimes just over 30 mins, sometimes just under. 9km - all up hill. About 20-25 mins home.

Between 56 minutes and 1 hour and 20 minutes, depending on wind, weather, my physical condition, which bike I'm riding, and most importantly depending on whether I have to wait for the ferry across the river. If I just miss the ferry I may have to wait for ten minutes or more for the next one, so that can add a lot of variability to my riding time.

Going to work is mostly downhill, coming back is mostly uphill. So, rather than follow your instructions, I just averaged my one-way trip times.

Straight in 30 minutes, straight home same. I can stretch it as long as I want to.

About 25 minutes during the summer.

In the winter it can be anywhere from 35 to 50 minutes.

If it took me more than an hour I don't think I'd do it on a regular basis. Even 45 minutes is longer than I'd like and if that's how long it took me year round I'd probably find another way to work.

A few years ago, there was a poll (can't imagine it was a contest) in the US for the person who had the longest commute and it went to some fellow in California who commuted 4hrs each way (in a car): worked in the city, wanted to live in rural. I think the prize was a gas card.

The longest bike commute I've heard of is a fellow in Southern Ontario who rides 50km (30mi) each way but he only does that 2-3x per week, I can imagine that it would take him about 2hrs each way. He was one of the riders who participated in the T2T4UW (Thunder Bay to Toronto for United Way charities, 1400km in 10 days).

Varies a lot, depending on route choice and which job.

In foul weather, I'll take the most direct route which is 10 minutes to one job, 20 to the other.

I strongly prefer a longer ride. The ten-minute one, especially, is frustrating. I'm happiest with a ride of 45 minutes to just over an hour. I'm still working out rides of that length to my new morning job, and between jobs just after lunch time.

Your poll options see a bit skewed toward the long side. I doubt if many commuters ride more than 1.5 hours one-way. Based on commuting distances reported in other threads here, I would guess that the vast majority of commuters ride less than 1 hour one-way. Your poll might be more meaningful if you had more options for shorter times.

10 min drive to 7-Eleven for morning cup a joe.
3-5 min in store.
10 min to train station (5 driving-5 waiting for departure)
50 min train ride
20 min ride to work.

Out bound.

20 - 90 min ride to one of three train stations.
50-35 min train ride.(During rush hour, this is often faster than driving this stretch)
15 min drive home.

i'm similar. it's anywhere from 50-70 minutes depending on those variables, most notably the wind because of my route along the lake michigan shore. so i'm not sure how to answer the poll because my overall average comes out to roughly 1 hour, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less.

my longest commute time ever was 90 minutes because i got caught in a pretty brutal winter storm. about 10 mph was all i could muster battling that beast.

Didn't give an option that fits my commute. Mine varies a little, and can be over or under an hour (45 to 75 minutes) for 11-17 miles one way. As a multimodal commmuter, it depends on where I park, the route, the bike (road or commuter), and the weather (mostly the wind +/-).

I voted. Just over an hour at the quickest, about an hour and fifteen at the most. That's my short route.

1h05-1h10 average, The quickest was 39-40 min. to cover my 27.4 kms commute during the Sandy storm last halloween, I had a 70-90 kms tailwind, it was my craziest ride ever.
The longer was 1h50 one night this february, on the winterbike (studded tire to a minimum pressure) with a 40-50 kms headwind/crosswind on solid ice.

25m in the summer 35m in the winter. In most conditions door to door it takes me about 10min longer than it does to drive my car and park etc. In crummy weather or heavy traffic days it's frequently faster to ride as I'm on a MUP a majority of the route and not affected by drivers or conditions nearly as much as I am in the car.

If I go directly to work it takes me 20 min. +/-2. Doesn't seem to matter whether I ride the 35lb utility bike or the 17 lb race bike.

1 1/2 hours to work almost 2 home. Uphill home. It's a little long for me. I am glad you did this poll because I was wondering the same thing. Looks like most commuters are in the .5 to 1 hour mark. That is something I could do everyday.

Average 47-52 minutes.

Of course, there's been times when the weather pushed it up to quite a bit over an hour!

My ride to work is 14.8 miles and takes me between 52 and 62 minutes depending on how hard I feel like going.
My ride home varies between 14.8 and 35 miles. I can take the straight shot, the slightly scenic route, or the all-the-way-around-the-lake *super* scenic route.
