Trek 970 Rebuild complete
Its been a long 2 years since this thing came in a beat up box from Jersey with a stuck stem and post. Not to mention the frozen dust caps.
I am still planning on some tubulars and yellow cable but for the most part its done. I tried to keep it mostly original.

Wow, great looking and I imagine it moves very well. Did you need to source most of the components? It looks correctly built.

It was complete when I got it, Just covered in stickers. I had to swap some parts with ones in better shape and the shifters are NOS. Hope to get some real seat time on it soon.

yeah, i'd go yellow housing (in a shorter length), black saddle, black chain, and either gum hoods with gum wall tires or black hoods to match the current ones.
my '84 fuji is red/yellow like that. it turns heads.

Agreed, Brad... but...I wear shirts with a 36/37" arm, and would be uncomfortable in that setup, even in the drops 100%. So I'm assuming that the setup would be uncomfortable for most, including probably the OP, who has completed such a cool resto on a brand I love.

Go figure! So I'm just going to say personal preference + BikeForums orthodoxy.

Im fine with the nit picking since I got it together then rode 10 feet and took pics, then back inside with it. But I do plan on adjustment and cables etc and then theres the C record/hoshi/wolber tubulars that will be on it at some point soon.

nicely done, i dig the color scheme, how was the paint? it looks flawless, every early 80's bike ive come across is usually pretty beat up..

Seems the stem/bars are frozen so Im stuck with that angle till I get it worked out.
Not horrible in the drops but they need a little bit of angle. And that tape is super slick.

NICE! looking ride, great job on the resto....any BEFORE pics? You ARE missing your Dork Disk if you are trying to match the TREK pic! ;-) I may have one or two in my junk box!

I use a plush 700x28 150 tpi Vittoria clincher tire on my bike, and I keep the air pressure moderate. Sew-ups would be a nice addition, IMO.
