I don't know about the rest of the country, but in the south there were plenty troops that were like the klansmen youth brigade. New Orleans was on the forefront of the civil rights movement so we had a lot of integrated troops, and at the jamborees there were some heated encounters. No doubt there are still remnants in place.
BTW never made it past 1st Class due to apathy.

interesting culture clash there... at summer camps in socal troops were more concerned about who got to the mess hall first, or who had more water balloons.

it's also interesting to note that SS/FG riders tend to be of the rebellious/alternative/counter-culture crowd, both as children and adults.
i've always been somewhere between the honors/AP kids, burnouts, and jocks. I know that makes no sense but hey I am what I am, and am still the same way, I suppose. I would sneak out on lunch break to go smoke weed/drink beer, but go back to class after and do my homework.
I was high when I had my Eagle board of review, smoked some white widow with my pals about 30min beforehand. Boy that was a bad idea, I mean it still worked out for me, but I was nervous as hell.
I remember the three higher-ups in the scouting org. that reviewed me were very interesting professionals to me. One was a mech. engineer who designed all of the underground water pipes in downtown San Diego (woah!), one was a consulting geologist (cool), and the other a teacher or something, I forget.

i sucked at school till the 5th grade, then i was in honors classes for 2 years and more work was too much for me so in 7th grade i got dropped down to the "normies" class.
then i met my (still) best friend and another ex friend who introduced me to cutting school, old english, newports and joints. my participation level pretty much plummeted after that despite getting 90s on any test i was given outside of italian. dropped out in sophmore year of HS.
aced the GED a couple years later, went back to college a few more years after that and now i dont do drugs and have a 3.8 gpa. wtf is wrong with me lol?

In el Cajon the troop was at the Mormon church and all the grown ups called each other "brother" and "sister". My brother didn't last to long with them.

@MuffinMan the only thing that is overtly wrong about that bike is the frame/fork combo - it would work great with a CX fork (obv).

I recently read Under The Banner of Heaven by Krakauer - I suggest you check it out. It was a good read, very historical.

id like to hear from cannondale R&D the benefits that you gain from using a lefty fork on a road frame which explains the man hours put into the design of that bike and its continued existence outside of someone saying as a joke "bro imagine a lefty fork on a crux?"

I as well dropped out of HS. Was forced to get my GED recently, and passed it last month. It was difficult, but I can say w/ certainty the only knowledge required is reading comprehension and basic algebra. Anyone who's about to take it: skip the extended response stuff, don't waste your time. They're worth 5 points max, and not worth stressing over. There's one in every section except math.
The amount of focus required to absorb the general passage/mul choice stuff is taxing due to stale subject matter. Conserve your energy for those.

Went to an AP/Honors school and graduated second from bottom of the class. Got wasted the night before the SAT and scored in the 99th percentile. Went to an elite university and majored in guitar playing. Life is good.

Hunting for a cell phone pouch to throw on my chrome bag. Anyone have recommendations for one that will fit an s5. Something durable.

Man, people are really over thinking this gravel grinding thing. I miss the days when I took my cheap 80s road bike with 35mm tires on dirt and nobody would talk to me about needed this or that for better performance. They would just look at me like" wtf are you doing here?" But I guess it has become a "serious" thing.
