I own the finest bike in the world.
Says so right on the frame, they wouldn't lie would they? I was actually pretty surprised by this Nashbar bike. I bought it off the goodwill auction, horrible pics and final bid of $46. I really couldn't tell what I was getting. Full Suntour Cyclone. I picked it up, did a quick cleaning, cables and bar tape. Done....

Nashabr must have usurped the crown from Sekine:

I really dig some of those Nashbar road bikes and would buy one in a heartbeat if a great deal came up.

Looks like a very nice frame. Any indication of tubing or mfr? Quite a score if you ask me. I really like under-the-radar bikes.

I would have paid $46 just for the slogan. Nice bike.

I just rode 20 miles on my exceptional 88 Master Ironman and thought is this my best bike,I means it's everything you could want in a bike. And then found this thread thinking you must have seen me and taken a pic.
Oh nashbar, I got some of the best shorts I ever owned from them in the 1980s. No surprise they had good bikes too.

Yes and no. One is the "World's Finest Bicycle" and the other is "The Finest Bicycle in the World." Not the same thing.

Wow, that's a great looking bike, with great components, at a ridiculous price. And it looks like my size. That's one I could see buying for the components, and then keeping it together just because it looks so great. How's it ride? I, too, and curious about the tubeset and maker.

Cromo frame, I was surprised how light it is. I haven't had a chance to ride it. Just picked it up today and its raining.

I went into a bike store once ~1985, and one of the employees was showing the other employees his new Bike Nashbar that just arrived in the mail... I thought that was really odd but a good recommendation.

I think I remember some wag here with a heavy, rock-bottom Sekine once posting a tread about "Sekine - Antithesis of Fun" which I thought was kinda funny, too.
The one pictured above actually looks like a lot of fun; especially at the bargain price

The subject bicycle appears to be a 1985-1986 Nashbar Road MK III. It is readily dated by the presence of the SunTour New Cyclone RD-3000 rear derailleur which came out in 1985 and was replaced by the AccuShift version in 1987. Cyclone MK III had been the proposed name for the new version of the derailleurs and Nashbar decided to use it for the bicycle's model name. The tubeset is an unidentified, Ishiwata double butted tubing but appears to 022 based on the post size. These bicycles were very nicely spec'd, using the full Cyclone group, including the sealed cartridge bearing hubs. The Road Mk III was a great value at $374.00 US.
I'd appreciate the frame's serial number for my database. I'm trying to identify the various Nasbar contractors as a reference for future owners. TIA.

Well that's a stupid price. And I get the impression you sell most for a fair profit while getting a road-ready bike in the hands of someone who wants it. Maybe I need to start looking more in my area. Good deal.

There was one of these on MN CL for $50. I recognize the chrome fork crown (a classy touch). I believe forum member @rjhammett got it and passed it along after an overhaul.

It might well be the finest bike that you can get for under $50.

Most certainly the finest bike in the world for $46. Looks like it was based on a Masi frame, minus the time consuming filed stay ends. I'd bet that would have been comparable performance wise with race bikes of the time, at a fraction of the cost. I guess Nashbar had to out do Palo Alto, who were selling their house brand frames for around $340 at the time.
