Bought a Travel Trac Comp Fluid Trainer - How'd I Do?

Scored this for $110 with free shipping and no tax, was $100 yesterday but was too lazy to process checkout so I had to pay $110 today:

https://www.amazon.com/Travel-Trac-F.../dp/B017KWOIDU

Just need a basic trainer for winter, don't need Zwift capability.

Solid purchase for the price?? Reviews seem solid and I know little about trainers tbh.

It has to be a better deal than my CycleOps Fluid 2 that has sprung a leak.

I have the same one. It's a rock. My only gripe (minor) is that it its pretty high, which makes mounting the bike a tad dicey. If you have speed/cadence sensors and a heart rate monitor you can get on Zwift easily. I "Ride On" quite often

Good Deal! Paid $140 last year for mine. No problems so far. Use it for interval training with the GCN videos. Good stuff!

I bought the same one off I think Jenson a few years back, different brand/stickers but same thing. I haven't had any problem with it other than it being a bit of a PITA to mount my bike, it just likes to fight me. I generally just mount the bike in it a couple times a year, winter, so it isn't that big of a deal. Mine was in their discounted Returned section so it was cheaper but not by much.

I have that trainer too, it's a great trainer, but a few weeks ago, Black Friday sale, it was only $99.00 at Performance bikes, but $110 is still a great deal on this trainer.

I have the same one. It's great, you'll love it. Paid $140 for mine you bum ;-)

My LBS put my bike on their fancy expensive trainer for fitting--I couldn't tell the difference.

If you need a fan, have had great luck with this one:

Cycleops is owned by Saris who have a lifetime warranty at least on racks but I assume now on all their products. I would reach out to them and see if you can get a warranty on it.

Looks like the trainer may be delivered tomorrow, so now I'm locally scrounging for a brick-and-mortar store that carries a trainer tire that I can pick up today or tomorrow.

REI has this one in stock and the price is reasonable:

https://www.rei.com/product/786331/v...-tire-700-x-23

LBS has this one in stock for same price:

https://www.eriksbikeshop.com/Cycleo...3E1601/Product

1) Either one better than the other?
2) My Sirrus came with 30mm tires, will I need a new tube?

Just use an old tire and tube. No need for a trainer specific tire.

Don't have an old tire and tube, would like some feedback on my questions. Don't want this to turn into a debate about the need for training tires.

Thanks.

You might as well get a tube sized to fit a 23mm tire. You could probably jam a 30mm tube in there, but tubes are cheap so there's no downside to getting the properly sized one.

No opinion on what trainer tire is better.

Got it mounted up, had a couple concerns/questions -

I've never changed a tire on anything but a BMX nor dealt with a quick release or folding tire, so lots of firsts tonight.

1) When I inflated the tube just enough to be round, it had a larger radius than the rim and therefore wasn't snug to the rim. Blowing it up more made it worse, so I installed it as deflated as possible. However this inevitably resulted in a bit of a kink at the last point once I was tucking it into the tire. Is this normal? I verified that the box as well as stampings on the tube indicated a 700 x 23 size, so it wasn't the wrong size tube.

2) Also when inflating it, I heard several loud pops/cracks - I think it must have been either A) the tube kinks unkinking themselves or B) The tire bead sort of snapping against the rim as the tube pushed out on it?

Everything seems ok, tire seems seated correctly etc and no weird bulges.
