Thirst quencher.. typically just a watermelon flavored Nuun tab in a bottle of water. Maybe half a tab for a shorter ride in cooler weather (really just something to give my drink a tiny bit of flavor.
"Energy Drink" recipe: 1/4 scoop Gatorade powder, 1/2 nuun tab, 1.5 scoops of Maltodextrin powder in a std bike water bottle

Another vote for water... if I'm doing 100km or more, I might put a NUUN tablet in one of my bottles, but that is a 50/50 chance (and I do carry food in case of bonks...but rarely touch it)

during a ride? pepsi/coke if i need some "rocket fuel" to get over the actual or proverbial hill in the next 45 mins/1 hr.
a beer-preferably a great lager if it's warmer than 80 degrees out. if no beer, a nice chilled mineral water of a subtle nature
such as lime-flavored. if you're hydrating properly pre and post ride, straight water is not necessary unless you're doing a massive
ride or a 90 + degree ride of distance.

Mornings I drink one pot of coffee. Only one, which is down from the two I was consuming between 6 am and noon some 20 years ago.
Now I mostly I drink water, and an occasional Gatorade. My favorite hydration mixes are the Skratch products. No carbonated drinks.
At meals it's about 50/50 water or unsweetened tea, depending on my mood.

Lately I've been putting a quarter cup of maple syrup in my bottle.

The coffee maker is a Black & Decker drip type maker. The decanter is a never-washed (rinsed only) stainless version that my wife is scared to touch.
My blood pressure is normal, but I will admit that sometimes my attention span is deficit...

Water is all you really need. Anything else will produce a buildup of residue over time that'll be hard to clean. If anything else, I put a bit of lemon juice in it.

Water or diluted Gatorade for longer rides.

Gatorade
I was pedaling a loaded bike through Tennessee in the summer, 95 degree heat/ 95% humidity. I was dieing, water didn't help. Bought Gatorade for first time and it worked. Have been a believer ever since and always carry it with me.

What flavor Gatorade? I've tried the Powder Mix Lemon-Lime and didn't like it.

In the winter, I normally come back from my 40+ mile rides with water still in my water bottle. Summer is a different story, however -- sugar-free Gatorade or Powerade (two quarts on a riding day) hits the spot, and the extra salt also prevents post-ride cramps in this old man's legs.

Zym
My favorite electrolyte is Zym. Unlike other brands, Zym has the perfect amount of flavor for my taste, and the flavors are straight forward. One tablet in a 24 oz bottle is just right for me on the bike. Or, when camping, I’ll put a tablet into a cup of water and enjoy as a breakfast drink (yes, I remember Tang!). I also find the tablets are convenient for traveling, even if just to mitigate the effects of a hangover ;-)
The only problem with Zym is purchasing, as REI and too many other retailers have been suckered in to selling those disgusting Nuun tablets — gross! So I purchase Zym directly online, getting several tubes of each flavor in an order.
Good luck!
Dave
PS: I have no commercial interest in Zym and simply have been a very satisfied customer for years.

I've been using Cytomax for years and I have come to realize that, unless I am doing an endurance ride, I basically only need something to quench my thirst. Water works, but a sweetened drink works even better. I have tried powdered Iced-Tea recently and it worked fine and taste great. What have you tried or use as a thirst quencher?
