Deal or no deal?
hey y'all! Here's the deal I've got a craigslist bike guy and he has this beautiful cannondale r800 with 105 5500 9 speed group set a carbon fork and 700c wheelset (cad3). Since I've been bringing my friends to him for bikes for a while now he said the he would trade my cannondale (1993-1995?) r700 with full 105 (1055 group set) and it has 650c wheelset (I got for free from a friend) and an 70's road bike that I built up from the frame (I love). Is this a good deal or should I just try and trade the r700 and a lil cash? Another thing to consider is that I'm 6'1" and weigh 165 lbs (twigly) so i'm not sure if the 650 c wheelset is ideal for me.
Here are some pics and a link to the craigslist ad.
these are the bikes i'll be trading (both my 1r700 and my 70's road bike)![](https://bikeforums.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=473270)

This is the bike i'd be getting https://knoxville.craigslist.org/bik/5180350702.html
I rode the bike today and it was awesome only thing is, is that the shifters don't have the nameplate where it says 105 but besides that it's in spectacular shape.
Thanks in advance and go vols!

You realize the bike you'd be getting isn't orange, right? ![Innocent](images/smilies/innocent.gif)
I have a hard time parting with bikes that I love. Of course, if I didn't have a place to keep bikes, fewer might be an advantage. Difficult call, but leaving perceived cash values out of it, what would you prefer to see happen?

Hahaha at least it's not wildcat blue.
but yeah it's probably more prudent for me to only have one bike as I'm living in an apartment on campus with tiny rooms (storing two bikes in there makes getting out of bed in the middle of the night a little interesting). I fell in love with the CADD3 as soon as i saw it. Do you think that it would be a good trade for both parties as he can sell the two bikes and I would get a Great bike instead of two good ones?

The potential advantage of keeping your 2nd bike is having something that you can ride somewhere to grab a bite to eat, or to class and lock up without having to be completely paranoid about leaving it locked up outside for an hour or so. If that isn't how you use your bike, and you have fallen in love with the CAD3, it sounds like you will have no regrets. If that's the case, go for it.
Note that I have close to zero idea about dollar values of the aluminum bikes involved (I'm a vintage steel aficionado), and I'm basing my response on what I perceive as what would make you happy.

i 100% agree that I should keep my old steel frame around to ride to class and food and such. I asked him what it would cost if I just traded the r700 for the r800 and he said it would be $185. Seems a little steep. Should I just save my beer money for the next couple weeks and splurge on that bike?

i've ended up taking the straight across deal on the basis that my 70's does not have water bottle screws and it has a cottered crank which is a pain. so i'll end up spending that 185 that he was asking as the difference on bike that has a square taper and a name brand. thanks for the help y'all!

UPDATE: I went to trade the bikes and he didn't want a 58cm with 650c wheelset. However he did give me two water bottle cages (win).

Still learning
I don't understand the benefit of going from one 105 Cannondale to another 105 Cannondale?
You really need a bigger frame if that much seat post is exposed. At least a 60cm. You can probably part out your Cannondale to maximize value. Probably $250 sold as a rideable bike and another $75 if parted out.
BTW, it's against house rules to sell through these pages, you need to buy a $12 membership and post it in the CV for sale thread, so please edit your post.

The benefit of going from mine to his cannondale are a plenty. His has 700c mine is 650c
9 speed vs 8. And a carbon fork. And his is prettier.
Sorry bout my misstep on the sales pitch I'm new. Thanks
