Suggest a bike
OK... i'm fairly serious and ride a rather expensive carbon road bike. My wife, 60, rides my daughters 24 year old mountain style bike. It belongs in the trash and hopefully will be soon.
So my wife only rides a few miles at the local park every now and then. She's never once changed the gears on her current bike. Years ago we put a "fat ass" gel seat on so by now you understand what she has.
I suggested a nice Specialized Roll disc, but she rather not have gears.
I'm looking for a single speed cruise with low entry and that doesn't weigh 40 pounds. It should have a "upright" seating position so she doesn't have to lean forward. I figure this will be the last bike she ever gets so I like the low entry for when she's in her 80s.
I'm totally lost in this category, so any suggestion is appreciated.

I like that Roll. They even make a single chainring Roll, but with rim brakes. Yet it still has a derailleur in the rear.
Reminds me of the Norco Scene, too. Those look to be direct competitors to the Roll.
My wife has a ladies Schwinn 7 speed cruiser that she hasn't ridden in probably 10 years. When she rode it, she just left it one gear and cruised.

Here's a low entry single speed that I know nothing about. Coaster brake only, though.

EDIT: Claimed 30 lbs. weight on that web page above.

Sounds like your wife would be best served by a city bike. The PUBLIC C9 Aluminum has a claimed weight of 24.5 lbs.
Yes, it has 9 speeds. Remove the derailleur, swap out the 9-speed wheel for a single-speed wheel, and it will be even lighter.

Electra Townie Original 1 . Aluminum frame . Can’t find the weight but has to be less than a steel Cruiser 1 and it weighs less than 40 lbs .

The Electra Cruiser 1 is a nice ride with its 44/22 gear ratio. Very easy to get going and keep going with minimal effort (unless you have some hills in your area). If that's the case, she'll be better off with some lower gears to make the pedaling easier. From what I have heard here, the Townie with 7 or 21 speeds is a really nice upgrade to a one speed cruiser type.

Stopped by the LBS and they had the Specialized Roll but suggested the Electra Townie 7D. I can tell you it's a lot lighter than the Roll and the Electra’s Flat Foot Technology (forward bottom bracket) might be the deciding factor.

The salesman was all excited when I showed up and said I was considering buying another bike. He was disappointed when I told him it wasn't for me.

one that was posted about a while back, a trek lime with an auto 3sp. i don't know if it would be worth searching for (no longer made i don't think), or the cost if you found one. one came through the co-op and i got to ride it around a few times, just around the block. i though it was pretty neat. i would have brought it myself but didn't have the extra cash at the time.

The day finally came and we went to the lbs. After test riding both she limed the fit of the Roll best. We had to order a medium and will have it in a week or so.
I just hope she's happy once she takes it on her regular route.

I sat on one of those Electra's this weekend at the trek store, I think it was, and I didn't like that seat at all either. I'm not sure I like the super far forward crank either. I do ride a cheap Schwinn cruiser mostly and it fits me perfectly. And I like the simplicity of a coaster gear. I do like riding one of the mountain bikes I fixed up that has more upright bars. I might even put some even more upright bars on it so when I ride that one I'm completely straight up.
Anyways... those Townie Electras are sharp looking and they have a lot of cool color choices. I guess the next time I go I should ask to ride one. I just sat on one.....
The first one you posted is very cool looking. If I'm reading right, that is what she went with? It looks expensive. LOL.

You got me curious so I took my scale out to the garage. Weighed myself and then weighed myself holding the bike and subtracted my weight. My cheap steel Schwinn cruiser weighs 32 pounds. But it's all stripped down. How much does the specialized weigh?

That was mean! I came up out of my chair when I first saw the weight. I was going, "Dude, you're getting a Roll!"
