Hi,

I bought an old Panasonic DX-3000 in fairly decent condition, the paint is not flawless but my intent on buying it is to switch the Claris components of my Bianchi Via Nirone 7 to the DX-3000.

The DX-3000 already has an 8-speed cassete (CS-HG50) on a 700C rim and on my Bianchi I have Ultegra 6700 rims using a Claris 11-32T cassete.

However I'm planning on getting the new R2000 Shimano Claris crankset in 175mm (the one of the Bianchi is the 2400 series crankset with 170mm crank size).

So I noticed I would need to get the RS500 Bottom Bracket since the R2000 crankset now uses Hollowtech II.

My question is: Does the RS500 bottom bracket fit on my DX-3000?

English BB thread so it should edit, assuming you are buying a new bb (which at under $20 makes sense) not moving the bb from the bianchi

So is the Bianchi Italian threaded? I have no idea but in any case this will work with at least 2 caveats: (1) you will need the proper English threaded BB; and (2) you will need to spread the rear triangle to accommodate what I'm guessing is a 130 OLD wheelset.

Ah, I missed to mention the Bianchi is a 2014 bike, so I think it should use the English BB.
Regarding the rear triangle spread, as I mentioned the DX-3000 has already an 8-speed cassete, so I think just swapping the entire Ultegra wheel with the 8-speed cassete on the Bianchi should fit just fine

Yes, looks like it.
But I found out the saddle wiggles at the junction that connect to the seatpost just above this weird piece the seatpost have, branded as Giant and EGS at the back, I'm not really sure what that is.

Does anyone knows what seatpost diameter the 85 DX-3000 uses, is it 26.8mm?

xtc14 That looks like some sort of vintage suspension seatpost. Have you pulled the seatpost all the way out of the frame? The size is usually marked somewhere below the minimum insertion line. You can also pick up some cheap calipers to measure it. Calipers are handy to have around if you are going to be doing more bike maintenance.

I’d go with the calipers over using the seatpost as a reference. It looks after-market so it might possibly be the wrong size.

You're correct it's a suspension actioned seatpost, the issue is that due to the suspension mechanism the upper part of the seatpost rotates and give you an uneasy sensation.

I'll check getting the digital caliper.

Edit. Measured with a simple cloth tape the diameter on my Schwinn Cimarron and it's the same measurement as on the DX-3000 which according to Sheldon Brown is 26.8mm
I did pull out the seatpost and there's no markings regarding the diameter, I'll get the digital caliper first and then check which size is it. I'm in no rush rebuilding this bike as this will be a secondary bike. However the seatpost from the DX-3000 can't be easily inserted in the Cimarron, and the Cimarron's seatpost kinda gets in easily on the DX-3000, so I suspect the DX-3000 uses 27.2 in diameter probably?

Final Edit: The size it uses is 26.8, I wiped off the grease on the seatpost.

You can find some really cool 26.8 seat posts for not a whole lot of money.

(I say that as I'm usually looking for 27.2 posts, and 26.8 were all over the place, for much less than I was willing to fork out for a 27.2.)

Ended up buying a 26.8 seatpost from AliExpress.

So, pending items to get.

- Quill to threadless adapter
- Cable Stops (which will require modification)
- New Seat bolts (already underway)

Regarding budget my plan is to re-use most of the components of my 2014 Bianchi Via Nirone 7:
- Ultegra 6700 Wheelset
- Shimano Claris 2400 Shifters
- Shimano Claris 2400 FD & RD
- Shimano Claris 2400 11/34 Cassette
- Specialized Toupé Saddle

New components:
- Shimano Claris R2000 175mm 50/34 Crankset Hollowtech (Ditching the 2400 Claris 170mm in favour of using a Hollowtech cranks) - $62 USD shipped
- RS500 Bottom Bracket (Included with the R2000 crankset)
- Alloy 440mm Handlebar, ordered from AliExpress - $21 USD
- 26.8mm Alloy Seatpost from AliExpress - $9USD
- Ordered 3 sets of binding bolts for the seatpost - $13 USD
- BarTape - $4.49USD

Apart from the cable stops I need the 1" to 1 1/8" Profile Design threadless adapter from Amazon - 16 USD
Some new bike cables and a trip to the LBS so they can fit the cable stops to fix flush against the Shimano B type downtube bosses.

And I think that would be it
So current expenditure so far is around $100 USD

I plan on reselling the Bianchi frame along with the handlebar, 2400 crankset, seatpost.and the components of the DX3000.

I got the downtube cable stops installed by a local mechanic.

I've another question, does the newer brake calipers align properly with this frame? I would suppose so since this bike came with 700C wheels.

Measure brake caliper reach on your old ones versus what you want to buy. A lot of the new stuff is shorter reach. Google brake caliper reach for details.

Disassembled the front 105 brake from my Lynskey and tried it on the Panasonic, and the bolt fits and the brake pads align with the rim braking surface, so I'm good on that part.

26.8mm Seatpost
Seatpost bind bolt

Already received:
- Handlebar
- Claris R2000 Crankset

And transport the frame back to my parents house where the build can continue.

So just to give an update regarding the build.

Finally it is completed, here is a picture


Frame fits very nice and accelerates well. Functions so much better with the R2000 Claris Crankset compared to 2400 Claris. Put around 185km.
