I'm feeling sore and numb in my feet when I ride
I wonder if I need new cycling shoes. I use mountain bike shoes but I've only had my new pair for about a year and a half. However, my feet are starting to get numb and sore from my rides. When I first got them, they felt good. I'm wondering if I need new shoes again or if it's something as simple as tightening my shoes more. Ideally, I'd like to save money but not if it makes me uncomfortable. I read shoes should last 15 years.

Following.
I have flat pedals on my gravel/road & mnt bike. I have three pairs or flat bottom mnt bike shoes. If I ride at a casual fun pace I can ride over 5+ hours my feet and body feel great.
If I ride at 90%+ power ( trying to make a pr, keep up with fast group ride etc... ) I feel it in my knees and sometimes feet.
At least for me the flat bottom mnt bike shoes are much more comfortable than my clip less shoes. My clip less shoes are the budget shimano on sale type to be fair. Maybe if sprung for sidi, lake or something nicer that might not be the case.

Foot numbness and "hot foot" is very often caused by a shoe that is too tight. Your feet swell on a longer ride, so it's a good idea to loosen the shoe when you begin to feel numbness.
Before spending money on new shoes, consider a supportive shoe insert. Here are a few shoe inserts to consider.

I have really bad numbness in my left foot, outside toes. These have helped me considerably. No affiliation.
