Vintage Trek question
Let's say you guys had a chance to own a vintage Trek. Say something in the 80's or 90's and you could get it for free. Say something needing a tune up, good going through and tires? Would you jump on it regardless of the model?

If I saw a $100 bill laying on the ground, would I bend over and pick it up? Yes.
A Trek road bike that needs a lot of work is worth at least $100. A Trek mtb that needs a lot of work is worth at least $25. Your description does not sound like a lot of work, so adjust figures up accordingly.

I don't think any of them were garbage. Maybe not the best mountain bikes on the market, but way better than any department store bike and certainly very rideable today. I would not turn one down.

I would only jump on it, especially if it had a men's frame in my size, because I can fix it (and can't help myself 
). "Free", however, can get really expensive if it winds up going to a bike shop for parts and repairs. BTW, IMHO, any Trek is/was a nice bike.

After paying $40 and spending another hundred on a '91 Multi Track and
riding it over three thousand miles in just over two months,
I would not only take it, I would fight for it.
Treks are worth what some one will pay, I have had insane offers for mine
and I won't even consider selling it.
