1980's Schwinn LE Tour-- Is the price right?
Hey guys.
A CL ad has piqued my interest, but I just wanted to verify the pricing. The issue is that I've never heard of the crankset or component brands. The following is from the ad:
Early 1980s Schwinn LE TOUR Road Bike
25 inch frame, 64 cm so 6'2" or taller. I'm 6'6" and it fits me perfect
Cro Moly Frame with aluminum everything else
Light and Super Fast
Blaze component package
BioSpace/Biotech Cranks Check out the bics. the crank rings are not round, more egg shape. This technology believes it's faster.
SUPER BIKE in great condition.
130psi 700c tires
How much is too much? He's starting at 3 benjamins.
Pics should appear below.
Thanks!

Location has some effect on price (what's yours?), but the size is a major minus from a selling point of view. Certainly not worth 300$. Somewhere betwixt 150 and 200 I think.
I ride this size and have paid less than 300 for considerably nicer bikes.

I searched ebay completed listings for Raleigh Internationals recently. Highest selling price was for a 25 1/2" frame. This idea that larger frames sell for less is incorrect. This misinformation just gets repeated and repeated and repeated thru this forum. Size doesn't matter.

$300 is a lot of dough for this bike. Hot markets are generally the bigger cities and/or college towns. I know N.O. well. I'm skeptical that it is a hot market but I could be wrong as I no longer live there.

It's a 1989 Le Tour in Medium Blue/Dark Blue Fade, so late eighties (not early eighties). Agree with $150 - $200 value range.

Absolutely agree with the $150-$200 max for the Le Tour. Believe me, I love the bikes. I have a number of them.
My favorite bike is a '77 12.2.
I am selling a Tempo for $150-200, in the Midwest, which is a couple of steps up the Schwinn ladder. It is not selling quickly.
In our market, I would not pay more than $100 for a Le Tour in good/great condition.

A couple years ago, I picked up a big, Campy equipped Somec in excellent shape for 250$. Good luck with that in a smaller size.

Back on point...$300 is way to much for any Le Tour and any bike with Blaze. Added together its a $150 bike in my opinion. Thats not to say I wouldn't sell it for $200, I just wouldn't buy it at that and if you are going to ride it, keep looking. Don't get me wrong, I like LeTours but that Blaze group is just a can of worms.
