Vintage Klein, part it out, or sell it whole?
Picked it up at a thrift store. Not my cup of tea, but I know a lot of people go gaga over these old Kleins. I believe it is a 1990 by dating the Shimano Deore M735 group. Looking at ebay prices, I think it is worth 900-1100 parted. Would you sell it parted, or give it a go whole?
Here is the build list.
Front and rear derailleur and thumb shifters Shimano XT M735, Brake levers Dia Compe SS4, Brakes Suntour SE XC Cani. Rims Matrix USA, Hubs Bullseye, BB is pressed in. Cranks are Cook Bros Racing. Rings are Shimano. Saddle is Selle Italia Flite Ti,

Be a shame to part out a bike that nice. The right collector might be willing to give you the same price whole as parted if you inquire discretely on the MTBR.com VRC forum or retrobike.co.uk.
I know MTBR has a thread dedicated just to Klein, but very strict rules about posting for sale. Figure out who's looking to buy and PM them.
I feel like mountain bike collectors are to original parts as road bike collectors are to original paint. In other words, someone might be willing to pay to keep that frame and those parts together.
Take this with a grain of salt because I don't flip and I don't collect mountain bikes. I do read those forums and that's how I formed this opinion.

Is that an Adroit or Attitude? NO Way would I part it! You'll kill the whole point of having a vintage and TOP of the line mtb. Everything is cool on that. I forget what Gary called that stem / bar, but its choice. Ringle hubs, Ringle Moby seatpost, Ringle skewers, original Flite ti. saddle. I don't know what your plans are, but if selling, keep me in mind - thanks.

That's amazing... that bike was someone's baby and yet years later to some family member it is just a bike like any other bike and that's how it ended up at a thrift store!
Good eye crank_addict, spotting those choice Ringle bits and the custom one piece Klein bar/stem. The Ringle Moby post and Ringle skewers will fetch another $50.00 each respectively on the part out side of your question. That said, the Klein stem/bar will likely bring more than the gorgeous C.B. cranks (oh, add another $30.00 maybe $40.00 for the uber rare matching dust covers if you part out as Cook Bros. collectors will kill for those), to a Klein collector that stem/bar is the Holy Grail with many replaced and misplaced along the way. A Klein collector will snag that stem/bar in a heartbeat and have it repainted to match their Klein that is missing that one original part.
I'm with the others as I'd like to see an original survivor live on complete but I can see why you're considering parting it out, especially if you need the dough. I'd love to come up on a $1,000.00 bike at a thrift store that I had no interest in keeping... it could go a long way towards a bike I did fancy!
Lucky find, you must have good Karma, keep us posted... thanks for sharing!

Have we determined that the post is a Moby? I can't seem to find another like it on Google images. I made another post about identifying it.

It was really nice of that thrift store not to send this one off to some distribution center where it would no doubt get damaged in transit.
It would be really nice if this build were respected for it's completeness, once you find pedals, and kept as a whole. It's very artistic, and no doubt somewhat rare in this condition.
Seriously, part it out? That sounded like an April 1 joke.
That particular XT group is only top of the line if it's on a pre-1991 bike like this one.
Someone once gave me a lightly-used Stumpjumper equipped almost identically to this one, same hubs, Cooks cranks, the rest XT. I still have it.

I still have my Team Stumpjumper with a suntour xc pro grease guard gruppo. Really sweet bike. I know that vintage MTBs are not as popular as road bikes but I think this bike may well be worth quite a bit to the right person.

This one thrift store find beats any bike I have ever found. The flamboyant painted Kleins like this one bring serious $$. Myself, I would start it pretty high, and let it go higher, just in case Klein collectors are napping.
Yes, that is a Mission Control bar/stem combo. I recently sold one, my excuse was it came on a Schwinn.
I would be tempted to swap out those wheels, as they are not original, and Bullseye stuff does quite well. And the green hubs look weird on that bike. But that adds the hassle of finding era correct XT wheel set, probably more hassle than it is worth.

WOW just fricking awesome!!!
This has got to be the find of the year. I don't think I would have the hart to part it out, but then again I wouldn't let it go at all if I found it.

I would part it out or put it back to all XT kit. The wheels, crankset, and seatpost are not original spec and are worth some decent money. It would not be a shame to part it out, it's an awesome find, but not a significant Klein in the grand scheme of things. It's a Pinnacle, which is not super desirable or significant relative to the other Kleins out there. This one does have a cool paint job and is in excellent shape, so it is worth significantly more than a standard Pinnacle. But, it's still just a Pinnacle.
A Klein collector would not repaint that Mission Control. It's an uncommon color and in excellent condition. There are cheaper ones out there to buy if someone is looking to repaint one.

A Klein collector is going to want the fork, frame and matching bars. Everything else, not so much. I bet you could get close to the same money for the frame, fork and bars as you would for the complete bike. And then the rest of the pieces sold separately will bring nice, nice money. I sold a set of Bullseye hubs last year, and did quite well.
Final point, the sale of the Cook Bros crank plus the Bullseye wheel set combined could bring as much as the rest of the bike!! And since they are not original anyway….
Academic, as it is already up on ebay as a complete bike. Added to my watch list.

Offer the crankset to the winning bidder of the frame/fork/bars at market value if they want it. It's not likely to add its market value to the package unless two people want that specific crankset for the bike.
