I am with Ervin8r on this. My MTB is a SS and it's all about the simplicity. No worries about bashing a derailleur, or mis-shifting, or cadence and so on. Just hop on and ride.

I too belong to the the CX club. I have a Tricross Sport (2011). Ride it 75% of the time. The other 25% in on my road bike. My MTB is in the corner collecting dust. Kind of sad really.:(

It is the bike I ride the most. I was riding a MTB on gravel, but it was just overkill. The Tricross is faster and for me more comfortable than my MTB. Drop bars seem to be more ergo than flat bars...

Training 100% Solo. Even on supported tours & charity rides I ride "solo". I will visit with folks and am sociable, but I like to do my own thing. My wife will often tag along on tours doing SAG.

I have a 2010 1.1 and rode it when I was 250 without any problem. I am not a mountain goat like Beanz, so I never put that kind of lateral stress on the frame. YMMV.
