What's your cyclist identity?
The other day I was talking to a friend who has been involved in cycling his whole life..He raced locally, was a mechanic, owned an LBS, and worked as a rep for for various cycling entities. He currently has a cycling radio show called Bicycle Talk on UCONN radio at WHUS 91.7. In any event we were talking about types of cyclists like sprinters, climbers and GC racers. I mentioned that I don't have the body and could never be a climber. He is a climber. He said, "You're a lead out man and TT guy." I realized he was on the money. It got me thinking and I realized that those are two things I love about cycling. Just wondering if you know who you are..

My identity is as the token cyclist. I am who co-workers as random cycling questions to, or when cycling is mentioned, all eyes turn to me as if I need to weigh in or 'be seen'.

Climber. I say "climber" because I enjoy riding up hills, and it's the type of cycling that I am the least bad at.
Really bad at everything else (sprinting, flat time trialing, lead outs, etc.).
My nicknames are: Chicken Legs, Pencil Neck, Skinny Little ****

Not a racer. Not slow but just not interested in racing. Based on my sig line, maybe call me an adventurer(?)

Old and slow. Tomorrow I will be older and slower. I'm okay with that

Not so interested in labels.
I am not a "cyclist" (and certainly not a "serious cyclist") or anything else .... though I have been riding my whole life and don't intend to stop ....
In light of the OP's focus on race roles ... I am an online spectator.

Dirty Heathen: one man’s visionary is another man’s heretic.
I have MTBs with slicks and road bikes with knobbies. My favorite bike was banned by the UCI.
I may not be the fastest, but I’ll ride anything, anywhere.

I am a citizen using a bicycle to get from point A to point B. For me a bicycle is mainly a means of transportation. Nothing more and nothing less. I don't care about bike sports, but I commute to work by bike, I run most of my errands by bike, I get to my doc appointments by bike..... Whenever I can use my bike instead of a car I use my bike. I have been riding bikes for 50+ years but I never owed a road bike or mountain bike in my life. Am I a cyclist? I don't know ....

I read somewhere that it's better to keep your bike identity a secret.

Chain Waxer?
Short Version
I am a chain waxer.
Long Version
I ride for fun and Zen, not exercise, but cycling is pretty much the only exercise I do. I am a slowpoke who rides barely enough to (kind of) justify owning 5 bicycles, so I almost always have one to tinker with.

20+ years ago, when racing on the road, I was a "sprinter". These days, I just call myself a "cyclist" since what, where, and how I ride varies over a fairly wide range. Other people have called me lots of other things.
